Why Multi-dimensional Health Matters for Women on GLP-1 Medication
We know that health isn’t just one-dimensional. HLTHYher takes a holistic and person-centered approach to wellbeing focused on the three dimensions of health: mental, physical, and social. The WHO constitution states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." For women taking GLP-1 medications, a whole health approach is especially important; strong mental health and resiliency skills, positive physical health habits, and a robust social support system are all keys to finding and sustaining long-term success.
Mental Health - Thinking & Feeling
Mental health is the first dimension of HLTHYher. We define mental health as how we think and feel—that is, how our thoughts are day-to-day combined with our feelings and emotions and how these impact our lives. Mental health is not simply defined by the absence of mental illness but also by the presence of positive coping strategies, healthy self-talk, proactive stress management practices, self-awareness, and feelings of fulfillment.
Physical Health - Being & Doing
Physical health is the next dimension of HLTHYher. We define physical health as who we are and what we do, the bodily experiences we have daily. This includes what we eat, how we move our bodies, how much or how well we sleep, and what conditions we manage.
Social Health - Sharing & Connecting
Social health is the final dimension of HLTHYher. We define social health as how we share and connect with our family, friends, and community. This extends to our values set and purpose in life. Our social health also extends to online communities and the media we consume; these comprise our larger social circle and influence behaviors and preferences.
Combining the Three Dimensions
So often, we focus on just one dimension—physical health. True health comes from finding balance in all three dimensions and building strong mental, physical, and social health habits. At HLTHYher, our curriculum, coaches, and community support help women taking GLP-1 medications focus on all three dimensions.
